Here’s how winner Danielle Reeves spent her trip to Los Angeles to meet Karl
This September, Danielle Reeves of fashion label TRIBE CMPLX flew cross-country to kickstart the opportunity of a lifetime: to start her year of one-on-one mentorship sessions with streetwear icon Karl Kani.
The trip kicked off this year’s E&J Brandy x Karl Kani mentorship program, which Reeves won when Kani selected her based off of her entrepreneurial spirit, talent, and vision. While in LA, Reeves enjoyed dinner with the Godfather of Urban Streetwear himself, received a tour of the Kani studio, took part in a professional photoshoot, and more.
“Meeting Karl Kani was the first of many opportunities I’m ready to take on,” Reeves said. “The trip wasn’t just a learning experience but a moment for me to celebrate how far I’ve come in such a short time.”
Reeves says her favorite part was the open and honest dialogue she had with Kani, during which they discussed her art and where she’s at as a designer and entrepreneur.
“And from that it’s proven that I’m on the right track,” she said. “What’s next for me and my brand? Just know you will see me and TRIBE CMPLX rising quickly bringing art and fashion together unlike any other has done before.”
