E&J Spotlights Round 2
What do these artists, athletes and CEOs have in common? Non-stop hustle and a love of E&J.
Between the three of them, there are at least six companies founded. Startups, non-profits, indie labels, podcasts, fashion lines — pick a passion and they’ve got it covered. Check out how Jason, Queen Poetry and Tragman continually remaster to change the game below. Then share your story for a chance to get featured.
“My hustle is multi-faceted and service-based.”
Jason Wallace’s stat sheet is off the charts. Starting his career as a professional basketball player, he’s won a Nike Dunk Contest, appeared in “He Got Game” and starred in 13 commercial spots.
But after being cut by the Knicks during the lockout of ‘99, and playing his last pro game in France in ‘01, Jason knew he had to shift focus. He began a new path as an entrepreneur, launching a successful start-up in NYC called Paint Nite NYC, founding the non-profit Honor Humanity Inc. — an organization dedicated to giving back to underserved communities, publishing two books and focusing on his latest project: Keeping Score NYC, a sports and justice podcast.
What keeps his drive alive? “New experiences and adventures motivate me. Evolving my art form motivates me. I tell stories as a writer, and I want to expand.”
“I’m a me-type of artist. I do what my heart and soul feels.”
@TheeQueenPoetry doesn’t like being put in a box. Founder & CEO of Queen Poetry Designs (graphic design company), host of “The Black Show Podcast” - a podcast dedicated to empowering the Black community, and most recently a rapper. Queen Poetry is a “Queen of many crowns.”
Channeling her passion for writing and poetry in her first drop, “The Making of a Goddess”, Queen Poetry’s album is all about finding strength and hope.
“I no longer fear being myself nor will I ever subdue my voice. That is what motivates my music. I thrive to be the best version of myself.”

“I want to give a chance to kids like myself that felt hopeless, and make it easier for the next generation to come.”
@Tragman83’s career is the definition of hustle. He’s opened for artists like Juvenile, Slick ‘Em (of Pretty Rickey), and Pastor Troy. Appeared on tracks for former Three 6 Mafia Members K-Rock, M.C. Mack & La Chat. And dropped 4 albums of his own.
Tragman could have stopped there and been happy with his success. But that’s not his style. He continues to reinvent, becoming the CEO of one of the first indie labels in Charleston SC and founder of the shoe line, GCE2.
His latest project, a solo album drop entitled “Watching Me”, produced by former DeathRow Records manager, Kurt ‘Kobane’ Couthon, is available on all digital platforms.

4 years agoMy name is Dr. Nigel Walker, AKA J.doc Batiste. I am an assistant principal, but also a writer, speaker and community activist. I am half of hip hop group Hypoetically Speaking, and alternative hip hop group that fuses the sound of poetry, southern hip hop, R&B, with a gospel flavor, to inspire and to represent for the culture. My co-member, Coach Griff, is also an educator and doctoral candidate. We seek to be a role model to students dream, pray, and push boundaries; be motivated in their own image and strive for greatness! Coming from a single-parent family of eight children in the housing projects of Alabama to getting my doctorate degree and being an assistant principal, all the while pursuing my passion for hip hop, I preach the message of defying the statistics. Our group Hypoetically Speaking will release our first project entitled Troup County on June 19! We are excited to show our students that dreams deferred are not dreams unrealized!
